定義
一篇簡明的散文或編年表，藉由提供檔案產生者的資訊，給予檔案資料背景的說明。包括關於個人或家庭生活的重要資訊，或組織本身的運作歷史。<傳記或歷史>（<bioghist>）可能只包含一長列的<段落>（<p>）文字，或<年代列表>（<chronlist>）以說明某一時間內相關的事件。此外當資料本身複雜時，可再套用另一個<傳記或歷史>，例如當描述一個家族檔案收藏時，需要有不同的標目部分。<bioghist>元素也可成疊套用來描述一段短文或編年表，這些資料可從MARC欄位545次欄位裡擷取出來。
許多元素，例如<傳記或歷史>可以自我套疊（元素內層可以包含自己），以便於在描述複合的藏品時，在所屬的各分項上使用多重標目，同時也讓EAD標誌可做多樣的輸出。在下面的例一中，元素<傳記或歷史>自我套疊，以便標誌自MARC中抽取的簡要傳記。
