July | Metadata professional training "Metadata Theory and Practice" MAAT member Shu-jiun Chen offered a course on metadata theory and practice in National Digital Archives Program Training and Promotion Division Professional Training Course. The course focuses on Metadata basic theories, the relation between Metadata and digital archives, international Metadata standards, and how to plan and construct Metadata. June | Complete Collecting the Common Elements of Zoology and Botany Thematic Groups The zoology and botant thematic group of NDAP worked with the Institute of Zoology and the Institute of Botany of Academia Sinica, and Institute of Zoology and Department & Graduate Institute of Entomology of National Taiwan University to integrate the digital contents, metadata format, information structure and techniques of the field in Taiwan. MAAT has supported the integartion of metadata common elements and completed "Zoology and Botany Thematic Group Metadata Common Elements Dreaft" and suggested establishing the mutual platform for zoology and botany: TaiBIF, which uses ABCD Schema and Darwin Core as metadata standards for the platform. |

Compele Collecting Archive Thematic Group metadata Common Elements The Institute of History and Phiology worked with Institute of Modern History, Academia Historica, Taiwan Historica and National Taiwan University to integrate the metadata content analysis and techniques under the National Digital Archive Program, and set up related standards and regulations. From November, 2002, MAAT has supported the integration of metadata and completed "Archives Thematic Group Metadata Core Elements " EAD is recommended, in which 19 metadata items are covered and five of 19 are essential items. |

The focuses include reviewing work in 2002, analyzing the conditions, requests and problems of NDAP practicing metadata, and proposing MAAT work priority in 2003. |

Feb. | The 2003 Annual Exhibition of National Digital Archives Program took place on the second floor of National Taiwan University Gymnasium on February 20-22, 2003. The “Interoperability” issue was selected by MAAT as the presentation theme, and by means of an informative instructional game, visitors came to understanding of what the interoperability is. | |
