Because of the special geography and diverse ecological environment, Taiwan has very abundant flora and fauna. A primary inventory shows that there are over 4,000 vascular plants species in Taiwan, and the diversity of vascular plants is higher than most of the countries and regions in the world. The complication of the biodiversity information makes the establishment and structure of fundamental species data (information).more important, and the records, collections, management and preserve of fundamental species data (information) are important bases of studying in the biological domain. Therefore, the management, application, and combination of biological information and database system are the main assignment of the team "Botany" in the "Nation Digital Archive" program.

To implement this program, the team "Botany", included Department of Botany National Museum of Natural Science, Herbarium Institute of Botany, National Taiwan University (TAI) and Herbarium Academia Sinica Taiwan (HAST), besides digitalizing and archiving their own data, and propose to establish the standard, integrated, interchangeable system.
